Enterprise Architecture

We enhance mission execution across business units by rationalizing both the business and the IT enterprise architecture, covering strategy, processes, people, information, and tools. We connect IT and business priorities to focus on business enablement and business outcomes

Enterprise architecture is aĀ planningĀ discipline, not an art.Ā Ā It demands a significant investment to bring results to fruition but has the power to deliver enterprise transformation like no other discipline.Ā

Enterprise architecture can develop meticulously detailed models.Ā  The modelsĀ canĀ characterize the relationship between all the moving parts of the enterprise.Ā  For IT enterprise architecture,Ā models describeĀ connectionsĀ from line of business activities toĀ data andĀ information systems.Ā Ā Ā

Experienced practitioners workĀ closelyĀ with business owners to carefully prioritize the portions of new enterprise architecture to build in ā€œsliversā€Ā that willĀ attain maximumĀ immediate valueĀ within resource limitations.Ā

Enterprise architecture isĀ the discipline of choice for building an enterprise portfolio of capital investments aligned with overall strategy and supportive ofĀ importantĀ initiatives forĀ multiple workstreams across the enterprise.Ā Ā Ā Ā

How We Help Clients

Guide Enterprise Architecture Across Workstreams

Using insights from anĀ architecture strategy and ITĀ assessment, weĀ helpĀ developĀ enterprise architecture across multiple workstreams in the organization.Ā  The work can include creating new architectureĀ blueprints and roadmaps.Ā In addition, alignmentĀ of IT and business priorities and rationalization of architectureĀ areĀ beneficialĀ for mergers and acquisitionsĀ andĀ valuableĀ forĀ companiesĀ with multiple divisions.Ā Ā

Architecture Strategy and IT Assessment

WeĀ conduct a carefulĀ evaluationĀ of our client’sĀ enterprise architectureĀ business and technologyĀ capabilities and maturity.Ā WeĀ examineĀ theĀ strength ofĀ theĀ connection between business and IT strategy, processes, vision, and priorities.Ā  We benchmarkĀ the current state ofĀ alignment between business and IT, andĀ weĀ documentĀ salientĀ insights about operations and management of systems and technologies.Ā

Plan IT Enterprise Architecture

We work withĀ our client’sĀ enterprise architecture team members,Ā executive leadership, line staff, and business owners.Ā  WeĀ develop an enterprise architecture strategy and roadmap to support enterprise transformation.Ā  The planningĀ sets priorities forĀ architecture development, builds aĀ target architecture blueprint, and creates anĀ implementationĀ roadmap.Ā  The planĀ ensuresĀ theĀ alignment of IT, target architecture,Ā and business initiatives.Ā  The roadmapĀ shouldĀ focus on business enablement and outcomes and show milestonesĀ connectingĀ IT priorities with business priorities.Ā  We emphasizeĀ theĀ use of strategic planningĀ withĀ theĀ engagement of top executives inĀ criticalĀ decisions.Ā  WeĀ encourageĀ theĀ adoption of aĀ strategicĀ business enablement perspectiveĀ to guideĀ allĀ IT priorities.Ā

Lead Implementation of Enterprise Architecture

We lead the implementation projects from the roadmap withĀ an enterprise architecture roadmapĀ and blueprint of future architectureĀ in hand.Ā Ā

We help implementation,Ā renewal, and upgradeĀ of cores systems, data architecture.Ā  We help guideĀ streamlining and simplification of tools, technology, platforms, andĀ management processes.Ā Finally, weĀ help with migration from a culture dependent on classic server-based screens and reports toward a culture that leverages cloud servicesĀ and serverless operations, APIs, DevOps, user self-service,Ā integrated data and analytics,Ā and agile methodologies.Ā

What We Do

Passengers, commuters and business travellers rushing around and waiting for trains and planes

Product Traceability

Gathering data feeds to trackĀ productsĀ from piece parts to serialized ready-to-shipĀ finished goods, including supplier, facility, process, and operator information.Ā Ā Building pipeline tracking to visualize product delivery through a partner channel to a distributor and finally to an end customer.Ā Ā

Capture Customer Feedback and Manage Incidents

Gathering customer feedback,Ā CSAT, net promoter, andĀ incident data from web pages, shopping carts, and mobile apps.Ā Ā Combining captured data in an intuitive and actionable presentation.Ā Ā

Improve Operational Business Processes

Bringing process, warehouse, and shop floor data to a tabular and graphical representationĀ withĀ a visual perspective that extends across the enterprise.Ā Ā

Data Collection and Reporting for Compliance

Combining data from multiple systems to provide tracking and process assurance for compliance reporting and enforcement.Ā

Intelligent Lead Distribution to Partners

Connecting a machine learning-based assignment tool to sales, marketing, andĀ partner management systems to deliver each lead to the channel partner most likely to close the deal.Ā

Channel Management

Developing a global channel partner management system with real-time data collection, scorecards, and dashboards for up to a million channel partners, with customized views for use by staff and by partners.Ā

Integrate Data Sources for Executive Reporting

Integrating data fromĀ multipleĀ data sources, applying transformative business rules, and presenting unified business performance reports for executives.Ā

Deliver Data Access and Reporting During ERP and CRM Migrations

OvercomingĀ data availability and latency problems arising from an ERP or CRM migration with consolidated data feeds, data transformation, and reporting.Ā

Transform Data to Forecast Next Most Likely Purchase

Developing customer maturity models and combining the models with customer, product, and sales data from multiple systems to produce an accurate and dynamic next most likely purchase forecast.Ā Ā Includes updating sales quotas and generating lead assignments from the forecastĀ of next most likely purchases.Ā Ā

Consolidated Reporting for Mergers and Acquisition

Accelerating access to consolidated reporting that spans the merged enterprise immediately following a merger or acquisition.Ā  Consolidating data from systems in each entity and building dashboards and reports with data transformations that provide a comprehensive view across the combined organizations.Ā Ā

Our Approach

We use an ordinary time-tested approach with discipline and experience to achieve extraordinary business outcomes

The magic in our approach is our reliance on time-tested frameworks and methods, our discipline, and our ITĀ solutionsĀ experience that,Ā allĀ together,Ā help usĀ deliver goodĀ results.Ā  At each step, we engage with executive sponsors, business owners, and IT and EA staff.Ā  We seekĀ to ensure that our progress is visible and enable our sponsors and client staffĀ toĀ participate and contribute to the business outcomes we seek.Ā

Select a Framework

We chooseĀ and adapt aĀ basic enterprise architecture framework as a foundation for our assessment.Ā  Our principals haveĀ Zachman and TOGAFĀ frameworks as models.Ā  We canĀ also workĀ withĀ a customĀ frameworkĀ established for our client.Ā  Wisely, we never advocate building out more than a sliver of an overall framework at one time,Ā enabling us to focus on the components of the framework that are most relevant to the needs of the business.Ā

Perform Assessment

The assessment isĀ an essentialĀ part of our approach because itĀ identifies the needs of the enterprise for aligning business initiatives and IT priorities.Ā  The assessment shouldĀ find issues that, when resolved, can becomeĀ business-enablingĀ opportunities.Ā Ā Ā

Strategic Prioritization

We work with line of business owners and C-suite executives to prioritize business transformation and business enablement issues.Ā  Priorities should reflect initiatives that might offerĀ significantĀ businessĀ value,Ā thatĀ solve aĀ seriousĀ business problem, and that are technically feasible.Ā

Develop a Plan and Roadmap

This step builds a coherent architecture plan and sequences initiatives as milestones on a roadmap to best match the strategic prioritization.Ā  The plan, or blueprint,Ā reflects business enablement prioritiesĀ andĀ embeds the essential sequencing of technologies needed to support the milestones.Ā Ā The blueprintĀ details the target architecture of the future.Ā  Depending on business requirements, the blueprint will only cover the parts of the organization and IT that are essential to the currentĀ needs.Ā

Establish EA Governance

WeĀ helpĀ implement aĀ simpleĀ process for enterprise architecture governance.Ā  The processĀ can includeĀ easy-to-useĀ methodsĀ for adopting and sequencing new technology, rationalizing existing technology, or revising the blueprint ofĀ theĀ target architecture and the implementation roadmap.Ā  Business priorities can change, so the roadmap must be easy to adjust.Ā  If the enterprise has an existing EA governance approach in place, we can adopt that approach.Ā

Implement Prioritized Milestones from the Roadmap

We work with the client to implement the selected milestones called out on the roadmap.Ā  These may touch only a sliver of the organization and IT infrastructure.Ā  We only implementĀ aĀ limited amount of new architecture to address the issues and opportunitiesĀ defined in the roadmap.Ā

Monitor and Evaluate Results

WeĀ assess the effectiveness of the new architectureĀ that we built.Ā  We then fine-tuneĀ our planning process, the blueprint, and the remaining roadmap.Ā Ā WeĀ want to understand whether we have resolved issues of concern, reduced costs,Ā andĀ providedĀ transformativeĀ business enablement.Ā Ā
